Chester Poppy Appeal
Dear all,
Many thanks for the huge support that you gave to the Poppy Appeal in 2018. Thanks to you, we raised a total in Chester (including Blacon & Saltney, Chester City, Christleton, Mollington & Upton) of £87,000, an increase of 20% on the previous year’s total. This is an amazing amount - so congratulations to everyone on a job well done.
For this year’s Appeal we are hoping to raise £100,000 to commemorate the 80 years since the start of WW2. We have a number of events happening in and around Chester and it would be great if you could let us know if you can volunteer at any of these. Although not all of them are Fundraisers (such as Chester Pride) they will all help to raise our profile in Chester and serve as a platform for us to get more volunteers.
I would like to invite additional volunteers with the necessary experience to join myself, Ruth Jones and others on an Events Committee to make sure that these events are carried out professionally and raise funds around the city. We would meet informally approximately once a month and the more of us there are, the easier it would be.
If you can't commit to the Committee, there are other ways you can get involved :
- Upton Fest 25th and 26th May 2019 – we need ideas for a fun activity to draw people to our gazebo for this event – the organisers want it to be a fun day out for local families.
- Chester Pride Saturday 10th August 2019 – we would like to show our support by taking part in the parade through the city – so dress up as appropriate and join us for a fun time giving out freebies to the crowds.
- Chester Poppy Memorial Walk 1st Sept 2019 – we need stewards and helpers as well as lots of people to take part in this very special walk.
- Goodnight Sweethearts Concert & 40s Night 26th Oct 2019 – we will be taking Upton Royal British Legion back in time and making this a themed night which everyone will enjoy.
